Child abuse teams are typically comprised of prosecution, law enforcement, social services, medical, and mental health representatives. These teams must be kept current on all aspects of child abuse, covering the spectrum from child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and drug endangerment. Child abuse teams in rural Nebraska, usually organized on a county basis, face require the same ongoing training requirements as teams from urban centers, but face the special challenges associated with their rural and frontier locations. These counties typically have very limited travel funds and no redundancy in staffing to assure continuous deliver of services during off-site training. These factors emphasize the need for on-site, local training opportunities tuned to the learning needs of LB1184 teams. The Minnechaduza Foundation endeavors to bridge this training gap by facilitating training opportunities that are conducted right in the North Central Nebraska region. This strategy requires coordination of training assets, but is expected in result in much high rates of continuing education and enhanced competency of team members. Topics the Foundation will focus on immediately are: · Drug Endangered Children (using the Chem-L protocol in Nebraska) · Multi-disciplinary team structure and function · Recognition of child maltreatment and the association with domestic violence. The Foundation is working with LB1184 teams from Cherry, Rock, Keya Paha, and Brown counties to assure delivery of the latest information in these topic areas. Beginning in 2007, the Minnechaduza Foundation provides formalized 1184 team training and meeting coordination services to Brown, Cherry, Keya Paha, and Rock County under a contract with Nebraska Health and Human Services System. |
