Comprehensive strategies to prevent drug abuse attack the problem at the demand side (reducing demand in youth through after-school activities, for example), and at the supply side, to disrupt drug traffic patterns in a community. In the U.S., law enforcement usually attacks the drug supply problem through multi-jurisdictional counter-drug task forces, enabling multiple jurisdictions to share intelligence and resources to conduct operations against drug trafficking. In Nebraska, Cherry, Brown, Rock, and Keya Paha counties are not included in any existing counter-drug task force. The adjacent South Dakota and Rosebud Sioux Tribal borders create special jurisdictional opportunities for enhancement for Cherry County. The Minnechaduza Foundation is working to identify funding from OVC and other sources that will support the operation of a counter-drug task force serving this North Central area of Nebraska and South Central South Dakota.
