Child abuse prevention initiatives planned by folks from Cherry, Brown, Rock, and Keya Paha County are implemented by the Minnechaduza Foundation to make a real difference in the safety of children in the Northern Plains.

Being a parent is a challenge to say the least.  From infancy to the teen years, parents need help in understanding their children and are always looking for strategies to keep children safe and the home healthy.  Circle of Parents is one way.

In Valentine alone, some 400 kids are unaccounted for after the bell rings.  After-school programs are a great way to soak up that time with constructive, supervised activities that enhance academic performance.

Rural health professionals have limited opportunities for continuing education, and yet in the areas of child maltreatment and domestic violence, provider awareness is critical in assuring the safety of children .

Sometimes, bad things happen to kids and our next best opportunity for steering them back on a safe and productive path involves their interaction with the justice system.  The Foundation assists Cherry County in juvenile planning

Supporting safe children and healthy families is compounded by economic depression.  The Foundation assists Valentine and Cherry County in activities to enhance the local and regional economy through economic development.

In Nebraska, county child abuse teams were mandated by legislative bill 1184 (LB1184) - and thus their name.  The Foundation enhances training for these teams in North Central Nebraska.

The Foundation is working with Cherry County, the City of Valentine, and neighboring jurisdictions to develop a counter drug task force aimed at disrupting drug traffic.

Walking, hiking, MOVING—this is the antidote for epidemic of obesity and diabetes afflicting the U.S. and the Great Plains.  Making trails for these activities goes a long way in creating a healthier community.

The Foundation sponsors physical activity events that provide a format for increased physical activity – ranging from casual walking or cycling to intense exertional activity.
